Larnaca
A small, walkable seaside city with a palm-lined promenade, a salt lake that fills with flamingos in winter, and the island's main airport fifteen minutes away. Nicosia, Limassol and Ayia Napa are all under an hour by car or bus.

🇨🇾 Destination
The easiest first move abroad we know. Everyone speaks English, the euro is the currency, the sea is warm enough to swim in from May to November. You land in Larnaca, a small, easy seaside city with the airport fifteen minutes from the promenade, and your first month of housing is taken care of before you arrive. It is the kind of place where you find your feet fast, and then use them to see the rest of the eastern Mediterranean.
Why people go
Not the brochure version. The things people who moved here bring up unprompted a year later.

Your first month in shared accommodation is covered and your flight down is reimbursed, so you arrive with a bed, a team and a month to find your feet before rent is your problem. Larnaca is small and easy, and life here costs less than in most of northern Europe.

English is spoken almost everywhere, from the bank to the landlord to the doctor, so the paperwork and the first weeks are far less daunting than in most countries. You still live somewhere genuinely different, with Greek and Turkish on the street signs, but you are never stuck.

Cyprus is one of the sunniest places in Europe. Swimming season runs from May well into November, winters are mild, and in the colder months you can drive up into the Troodos mountains and see snow in the morning and the sea in the afternoon.

Rough 2026 ranges for Larnaca. Your first month of shared accommodation is covered, so the rent line starts from month two.
Where the roles are

Before you go
The parts of the move nobody puts in the job advert.
As an EU citizen you register your residence after arriving and get a social insurance number through your employer. Because English is the working language of almost every office, it is the most straightforward paperwork in the Mediterranean.
You start in shared accommodation arranged for you, free for the first month, so there is no flat hunt from abroad. Once you know the city, most people stay central near the Finikoudes promenade or move a little out towards Mackenzie beach.
Hike the Troodos mountains, swim at the sea caves at Cape Greco, or take a cheap flight to Athens, Tel Aviv or the Greek islands. The island is small enough that nowhere is far, and different enough that every corner feels new.
